-I am not very flexible and don't have a lot of experience in dance. In 3rd grade I did take tap and jazz for a year. Now going into high school I want to start ballroom and latin dancing. It has always been a dream of mine. Am I too old to start? Should I work on flexibility and strength before I start?Okay. before i start; i am thirteen and i have done ballroom dancing for about 4 years... and i have to warn you, it isnt as easy as it seems to most people...
most people think oh you just walk gracefully around the floor. no. it much harder than that. all the preperation and the money involved is enoumous. and most of all... your feelings towards it. ballroom dancing is much harder than anyone assumes it to be. you need the right posture, the right atitude on the dance floor, you have to be quite flexible (e.g. splits) & you have to work on your politeness all the time. they mark you on everything if you would like to compete. another thing like i said above, the costs; they can come up to 1000,000's of pounds/dollars just for one single dress... or even a pair of shoes. also some classes may be expensive too if you wanna ahcieve to your full potential. another thing is that you have to feel you wanna dance. i dont recomend going into compete just for a laugh. its a serious mattter. i take it very seriously. and most people say, ballroom dancing improves your confidence, in my life; it dident, it made it worse. many people show off and are cocky about their dance, just ignore them (what i try to do). also im not sure how old you are, but if you are around my age issh or younger, its pretty hard to find boy partners. most boys thing it makes you gay if you dance. you have to have a passion for dance. its not as easy as people make it out. ive cried many nights thinking of what i could be with my dance. its a very emotional journey. but hopefully after it will be a happy ending(:
i hope i dident scare you with that it just some of my experiances. i wish you well with your dance career and you should go for it if you really think you'll get somthing our of it and you BELIEVE you can. (:

Warm up by stretching and you are never too old to try something new. So you are fine, just be sure to give dance 100% if you plan on doing it.
No youre never to old! But you might want to practice with a partner.
