-I'm trying out for the Houston Aeros dance team (like the hockey version of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders).
I need to pick a song for round one. It needs to be up beat and perferably out in the last year or so.
Thanks for your help! :)One great sond The Edge Of Glory, by Lady Gaga. It's stuck in my head right now! another song I love Give Me Everything by Enrique Iglesias ft. Pitbull. You can search the billboard website for any kind of song and style you like! Hope this helps! Good luck!
my friend tried out for the Kansas City Chiefs cheerleaders this past season and she used DJ Got Us Falling In Love Again by Usher
it was really cute and the dance got her to the next round of tryouts!
good luck!

Urgent Ballet Question! Variations Class Withouth Pointe Shoes?
-I am attending a one day dance program. There will be a variations class, but I am not sufficient enough on pointe to take a variations class in them. Should I just wear by technique slippers?Wear your slippers, certainly!
This is actually really good because you're going to be able to focus on the moves more than staying en pointe, as you would have done if you'd tried to wear your shoes!
Just tell the instructor before hand.
Some of the moves may be a little tricky without pointes, but it doesn't matter. What is important is that you're learning moves which might be centuries old! You're making a start! And also doing it safely...
Good luck!
Hope you enjoy it!Variations class is a pointe class. You would have to talk to the teacher about this. You should not be doing a variations class if you cannot dance en pointe.
yep. You shouldn't do something if you and your body know you shouldn't! be careful and make good choices for your health!
-Good Luck! <3
its better to go, and wear your slippers, and learn the material
than to not go, and miss out :)

***L@@K L@@K !!!!*** BALLET help!?
-So, my dance studio has asked me to write a little dance production...
ive decided to make it about a girl who is poor- shes a maid, and shes cleaning out her mistrisses attic, when she finds a mask- a really beautiful mask!
OPTION A)
she sneaks out, and wears it to the annual masquerade ball held by the family that 'owns' her, and everyone thinks shes besutiful...
the prince falls in love with her, and she falls in love with him too... but how can a prince marry a maid? he'll have to risk losing his status... will he do it?
a very cinderella-esque
OPTION B) the mask comes with a key.. the key unlocks a secret world, where everything is perfect, beautiful... but she find out that the reason the mask was hidden away is because the last person who wore it to the world made the evil person (i have no idea on the background of these people yet!!) very mad- the 'evil person' thinks that the maid is that same person, and turns the world into chaos, the maid is terrified- what happens next?
what storyline should i choose, or maybe you have a different idea all together?
any ideas for music, or sets?
named and backgrounds for the characters??
thanks guys!
xoxoA
Princess diaries waltz is beautiful
Get enchanted backdrops of a castle or something
Anita
Cinderella
Gricet
Grace
Tina
Bella
Sir handsome; different than prince charming
Robert
Tony
Both options sound good. I would probably go with option B though. Maybe the evil person could be named Queen Dee and whenever she comes on stage all lights are on her. The girl could be named Sophia. Maybe she can meet a boy who wants to help her fix the world. His name could be Kyle. Kyle could be a prince in disguise who hated his old life in the real world so came to this world and now "worships" the evil person. Together they can rule the new world together.
Good Luck!
-Candy=)
both options sound good...... I like the thought of option B its completely different to most stories , and gives you the chance to really make it your own ...option A im guessing would be easier for a younger audience to understand but then ties you to classic fairytale story lines .
hmm names ...well if you went with option B what about Italian commedia del arte names like for the prince Leandro and then the princess Auriela.....if you were to have a page or servant who helped them the character could be called scaramouche
good luck :)

When can i use Gaynor Minden pointe shoes?
-I am 13 years old . six months ago i stand on pointe for the first time. Now i am buying my 3rd pair of pointe shoes and i want to know if i am ready to use Gaynor Minden pointe shoes.
***** i already dance 1 solo in pointe and 3 performance whit my teachers group... ThanksThe brand of shoe you use doesnt matter. the only difference between lets lay Bloch and gaynor Minden is they may be made differently, or the sizes are different. If you truly are ready for pointe, then you can have any brand. Including Gaynor Minden.
Brand doesnt matter, only size and readyness.
Hope this helps
~Lindsey~
Haha my friend had gaynors for her first pair, not sure what you're talking about, but really, if it's comfortable and your teacher is okay with you being on pointe, it's fine. :)

What do you think of feet? (for ballet)?
-Are they strong and flexible? Do you think I am ready for pointe? Also, can I have some constructive criticism?? Thanks soooo much (;I'm sorry, but i'm afraid we really can't help you, as we haven't seen your feet. Were you meaning to post a video or picture along with this too? If so, we can't see it.I am not really understanding your question:/
Song Suggestions for Dance Solo?
-I would love to hear some song ideas for both jazz and lyrical dance solos. I want it to be something pretty upbeat and happy to fit my personality but a slower song would be fine as well. Thanks!Castle Time- Chris Garneau (A slow sad song, but I love it! I was in a dance choreographed by a friend)
Sparks Fly- Miranda Cosgrove (Very upbeat and happy. I did a lyrical dance to this.)
Maybe some Taylor Swift song. (Not all are good to dance too though)
In For The Kill- La Roux (An upbeat song. I don't really know if it counts as happy though.)
All The Way Up- Emily Osment (I skated to this. I had a fun time! Very girly and animated)Party Rock by LMFAO. Written in the Stars by Tinie Tempah or The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars. Last Friday Night by Katy Perry Rolling in the Deep by Adele
I like dancing to Bruno Mars songs
dream by Priscilla Ahn
and California King bed by Rihanna
Rock your soul- elisa
try california king bed-rihanna, or touch my hand-david archuleta
I really like first dance buy nevershoutnever...idk if that would work...

How do i improve my split again?
-i am naturally a very limber person. i have always been able to do many splits and stretches, wowing people with my flexibility. i am a very serious dancer. i stopped dancing for 6 months, just to take a short break. but i seem to have lost allot of my flexibility. do you have any suggestions of stretches or exercises for me to do to improve my flexibility? thank you ;)Here are some stretches to help you work on your splits.
For the straddle--lay on your back with your butt against the wall. Extend your legs up the wall and then let the fall into the straddle stretch, gravity will help pull your legs down. Hold as long as you can. Repeat a few times. Also when you are doing your normal stretching in the straddle position, right before you are done stretching, lean forward into the middle and then try to pull through the stretch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MhiIL6Ao鈥?/a> (watch around the 15 sec mark for what I鈥檓 referring to)
For the other splits--lay on your back, bring a leg into your chest, hold a few seconds, then extend it. Grab your leg and try to pull it as close to you as you can and hold it, repeat a couple of times bending the knee and extending it. On the last extend, while holding your leg, roll over into the splits. Repeat on the other leg.
These 2 will need another person to help you---stand against a wall, lift your leg, have your friend lift it as high as they can. And hold it as long as you can. Both knees should be straight. The goal is to touch the wall with your foot (I could do it 20 years ago and now I'm back to with a foot of the wall after 3 years of dance and I'm 33) Repeat with other leg.
Next lay on the ground and have your friend push your extended leg towards the ground. Same idea as the stretch above, but it works the muscles in a slightly different way since you are in a different position.
One last stretch which will help your splits (and your arabesque penchee). You will need to find a blank spot on a wall and grab a chair. Now facing away from the wall and holding onto the chair for support, take a leg and slide it up the wall like you are going into splits. Hold it for as long as possible then switch legs. Try to keep your legs straight. As you work the stretch move the chair closer to the wall until you are touching the wall in a vertical split.
One note鈥攜ou can also try to do some of the two person stretches solo, by moving into a doorway and working one leg up the frame or down the frame depending on what you are trying to stretch. I just tried a few doorway stretches for the first time and I was able to put my foot against the door frame and got a completely vertical split in the needle position. This link is so you can see what position I鈥檓 talking about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8yJ4NeuT鈥?/a>
As long as you don鈥檛 rush and push yourself too fast, you can really make progress fast. Make sure that you really work both sides as evenly as you can. I never really worked the left leg and it's no where near as flexible as my right. I have had my right split for about 20 years, even when I wasn't exercising I could still do it. I never had my left, at my best when I was young, they were about a foot over the ground, now at 33, I can get all the way down, I just need to get myself square and straight so a little more pushing myself and I鈥檒l have them. Keep working and you'll get them."Nothing in particular"...
My dance teacher tells us this all the time when we ask about stretching. What do YOU want to work on? What do YOU want to improve on? If your a dancer you'll know stretched to re-gain any lost flexibility. I'm not trying to be mean btw :)
I also suggest, stretch for a long time right before you go to bed. If you hold a stretch for over 30sec, it strains you muscles and they don't go back to their original comfort level for at least a half hour. Stretch for a long time before bed and you body can relax for that 30min while you sleep. It's much comfortable and easier :)
YouTube any kind of stretched you want...it's much easier than asking for them to be described :)
Stretch right after you shower, because your muscles will be warm and relaxed. I have also heard that you should hold a stretch for 20 seconds in order to get it to really stretch. Make sure after you stretch that you slowly move out of the position and wiggle your legs around before standing, so that don't pull a muscle or something while getting up.

Does ballet help you lose weight?
-just wondering does it get rid of fat? cuz u build muscle at the same time. what should i do to lose weight in ballet? im working everything im told to and i get a really hard workout but im not losing any weight or fat. im still young so i thought it might be easier but its not happening. all the other girls in ballet are skinny and i feel awkward and out of place. it is mostly muscle but i hate my big thighs and but and the flat stomachBallet is both aerobic and anaerobic. It builds muscle and tones you and that can help with weight loss but it is not the best dance genre for weight loss. True, if you were training 30 hours a week in ballet class like pre-professional dancers do, you would lose weight. For weight loss you need something aerobic like zumba or swimming. Anything where you are moving your body which gets your heart rate up, will help you lose weight. Running is not the best for ballet because it reduces your flexibility and bulks your muscle not elongates it like ballet does. That is why many dancers swim as cross training. The other girls that may be thinner are most likely not that way from taking ballet. They may just be genetically that way. Look to what you are are eating and make sure you are making healthy decisions there too. With the right diet to go along with the ballet, you could lose weight easily. I mainly think you gain muscle. I promise you will see lots of muscle forming in your thighs. Depending on how many times a week you take ballet, the intensity of the class, and how long it is all depends. I don't think you will be losing that much weight, I know I didn't and I take it three times a day. I gained TONS of muscle though. Remember, muscle weighs more than fat!
Dancing is a form of exercise and any form of exercise burns eneryy and when carried out d right way surely can deliver the expected result.
Concerning ur weight not droppin, a conversion of fats to muscles occurs and bc the later weighs heavier ur weight. either remains d same or shows marginal increase for some period.
Regardin ur thigh size, could it b u were born big- meaning that d situatn is more nature than nuture.
If you're not losing WEIGHT, then you are probably losing fat but gaining muscle. Just accept your body. People are going to envy your athletic build. You don't wanna be too skinny!
Answer mine please?:)
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?鈥?/a>
It can help you lose weight but exercise(ballet) is only 20%, 80% of losing weight comes from diet. Healthy eating : fruits and veggies, wheat and whole grain
Definitely! With the right diet, ballet would burn fat and cause weight loss over time. Especially if your routine involves a lot of intensity and core work.

What are some excercises ican do to practice dancing and keeping balance in my heals ?
-I would suggest Pilates. there is this person on youtube who does really good pilate work. I'll leave a link Below.

~Lindsey~Pilates is great for balance. It strengthens your core. If you can't afford a dvd or game, there are probably some tutorial videos on youtube.
I'd suggest taking a pilates class to strengthen you core and a ballet class for balance
Practice dancing in the heels. Repetition breeds perfection.

How much hours a day should i spend on dancing?

So tell me, how much hours a day should i spend on my training? I hear that pros do 30+ a week? Should i dance 5 hours a day? Pls help!ner, and i want that places badly.
So tell me, how much hours a day should i spend on my training? I hear that pros do 30+ a week? Should i dance 5 hours a day? Pls help!first of all your a beginner not a pro ;). second you have summer break so you can send a lot of time dancing. try a summer intensive especially for hip hop. when is the audition/tryout? if it is at the end of the summer you can get a lot of dance done. if not squeeze in every moment practicing routines in the mirror. i also recommend the kinect xbox dance video game. it actually really helps you. i wish you luck!
I'd say a minimum of 4, but if this is a very intense tryout maybe go for 6. But the way I personally would handle this, would be training until I couldn't. Go until you can't feel your feet. Or you feel confident in your steps. Hope that helps!
i would do a half hour or an hour take a break and repeat up to 5 times a day
6 1/2 hours a day

Jazz dance class question? ?
-This year, my best friend got me to start dance. She has been dancing for ten years and since she really knows dance I trusted her to pick what I would be good at. I started with hip hop this year just because it is the easiest class (at least at my studio) to jump into with no experience. My friend recommended jazz. After watching her jazz dance and her showing me some steps, I'm really interested. Now here is the problem. I am completely lacking in flexibility. I'm not in an INCREDIBLE rush, since dance starts in september, but I am looking to at least improve my flexiblity, mostly back and legs. I want to get my split, or mostly there. I'm not too far off the ground in my middle split but my two regular splits are just terrible. How can I stretch to improve these? I know I can work at it every day, I just need to know how. Thank you!!!
BONUS- in my jete, my back leg goes pretty straight even though I can't do a full jete (both legs straight) however, on my way down, it bends. How can I fix this? THANK YOU!!!Wall stretches! Just get up against a wall and stretch. Its definitely one of the easiest ways to gain some flexibility. For front splits you just need to practice practice practice! You'll get there! =) When practicing on the ground, its okay if your pretty high off the ground just make sure both front and back legs are totally straight, that way when you get more flexible you'll have perfect technique. Do stretches every day they really do help a ton. I hope this helped!

If I take classes could I make the team?
-At my school there is a dance team we call drill team. My freshman year I kind of got too nervous and scared to try out so this year i tried out (for sophmore year) and didnt make it at all... And I have ALWAYS wanted to dance on a team infront of EVERYONE! and i have a year until the next time i can.
If I take a jazz/lyrical class at my studio (its the best in my city and their dancers are some of the best in the nation) could that help with my double turns and flexibility?
I do have a dance background but not in a while. I play an intensive volleyball type school and club.
Thanks to everyone who answers! :)
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!Yes you could.:) Just work very very hard! It will pay off:)Going to a good studio won't make you good, you just have to practice and stretch.
I would suggest talking to some of the team members or practicing with them and also you shoukd take private dance lessons.

Questions about the winter term in a ballet academy in NYC?
-So I'm really interested in becoming a professional ballet dancer and I had some questions about getting into a professional ballet academy. I know I may sound clueless, and please don't call me stupid or whatever, I'm just really curious. If I don't have a chance, please tell me but don't be harsh about it.. Thanks (:
1. Is there a certain age that they won't accept you at? I'm 13
2. I'm not on pointe at 13, do I still have a chance? (I've been dancing since I was 10)
3. Do I have to be homeschooled If I make it?
4. Is it very expensive with the rooming? If so, is there any scholarships or things to help me out with the price?
5. With the rooming, can I live there myself like a boarding school kinda or do my parents have to be there?
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and answering the questions. I'm really ready to give up everything if I have to.If you have the facility and a ballet body and are close to being en pointe because you have had good solid ballet technique, you could get in at your age without being en pointe. Many schools like SAB don't put their dancers en pointe until they are 13. You should know that only 2% of the population is born with what is requires. 13 is the age that they start having dorm space too at the Rose building. Students often go to PPAS or LaGuarida arts H.S. for their academics. They accommodate your class schedule. They have 24 hour adult supervision and meal plans as well as organized activities. The JKO school (feeder for ABT) does not have dormitories, but help arrange housing for you. There you would have to be en pointe at your age to get in. Other schools like Ballet Academy East or Manhattan Youth Ballet do not have housing and you would have to have a parent live with you. The Joffrey Ballet does have a housing program but I don't really recommend this school as It has no longer has a relationship with the Joffrey Ballet. Their feeder school is in Chicago.
Many students get into the winter program by invitation after doing their summer intensive. If you don't get into the summer intensive, you wont get into the winter program. Not all students in the summer programs get invited to the winter program. Usually only a few get asked. For ABT, you would have to get int their NYC SI to be considered for the full time program. If you get accepted to one of their other SIs instead, that means they are not interested in you.
You can also just audition for the winter programs. Your best bet is to check their sites for any questions you might have. Good luck.

What do you think of this dance?
-http://www.youtube.com/user/exclusiva07?feature=mheeGreat dance, wish I could see your facial expressions better. The biggest thing I think you could work on? USE YOUR SPACE! Other then that I thought this dance was fabulous!
Video quality made it hard to see you and your moves were a bit repetitive.
Dancing and bad music make me sad. That video made me very sad.
Pretty good :) you should record in a diff spot with better lighting though.

How old do you have to be to be a go go dancer?
-arent go go for men ?It kind of just depends what state you live in. I live in a state (Texas) where you are allowed to be a bartender at 18 years old...even though you arent allowed to drink. Just look around on some websites and see how old you have to be a bartender in your state. Call up some clubs in your area with go go dancers and ask them how old you have to be. If you go to auditions they will for sure tell you how old you have to be!
Some places you have to be 18 and others 21.
Old enough to be in a club and drink 21 years old
You have to be at lest 21.

Am I good at Pointe? (video)?
-I am going on my 3rd year of pointe...am I good? What do you think of my arches, my technique and getting over the box? I know they are just pictures, but I could use some help! :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=docnSzZ82鈥?/a>You are right on your boxes which is very good, but in the first picture your (screen right) your left leg is not turned out. Your shoes are not really broken in correctly or you have a somewhat low arch. You also have a low almost flat instep (top bump.) This is what a high arch looks like. Note where the shoe breaks at a much lower point. http://www.stepbystepdancewear.com.au/im鈥?/a>
I cannot see your technique by looking at still ballet pictures.
Keep working and dancing, but keep in mind that there is just so much that you can do. You have the feet you are born with. For recreational dance, there is no reason why you cannot be very successful with an arch like you have. It should not affect your ability to dance well in the least. Ballet banana feet look pretty but they don't make it easier to dance with. They are harder to control and require much more training and building up in strength in order to dance en pointe than someone with average arches.Yes, I agree with the others, you are getting over your boxes well, but you are not too far over, which is good:) Your arches could be a little higher, but we were born with them, and it's hard to improve them. I would recommend doing some theraband exercises to help:)
Keep dancing!
You look really good! You just need to tie your ribbons a bit neater but otherwise you're great! Could you answer my question please????? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmFqxydM4E_1KUQpudlbxiDsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20110704064842AAkeuJ1

When am i too heavy to do ballet?
-Im nearly 12 stone heavy and 14 years old, am i too old/ heavy to begin ballet? PLEASE HELP!!!I have no idea what 12 stone means, if you gave pounds or kilograms, I would have understood. I think that unless you are over 200 pounds and and in a pas de deux class, you aren't too heavy. The heaviest girl in this class is the best dancer in my opinion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGKxtUZUD鈥?/a>
Should dancing be accepted more openly as a sport rather than an art?
-Many people I speak to who dance with me believe that dancing is an art, but I believe it to be a sport. It's physical exercise and its very energy draining (believe me i know). Even though the term "sport" applies a physical competition, they still class fitness training as a sport. (or at least thats what people are telling me). If anyone has any opinions on this, feel free to tell me :)The definition of sport is: an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc. Dancing is an athletic activity requiring skill/physical prowess. A sport is OFTEN, but not all the time, of a competitive nature. So dancing is a sport, as a well as an art, as well as a performance!! OH YEAH!!! LOL. (: Keep in mind that a professional career in dancing is more physically challenging than football!!! Ballet is most DEFINITELY a sport. The essential characteristic of a sport is that it is competitive.
Darts, snooker and target shooting are sports and although they require a good eye and co-ordination, they don't appear to require physical fitness. Darts players I've seen on TV have beer bellies hanging over their pants and look really out of condition..
Dance is not essentially competitive. It can be competitive but it exists perfectly happily without competitions. In the UK competitive ballet is almost unknown.
Dance is performed as an art on stage. (I've yet to see a footballer or a swimmer on stage :-) )
Dance is definitely an arts activity, but can be treated in a competitive manner.
Fitness training isnt a sport...
Im a dancer myself, but I dont believe it should be a sport. Competiton dance, maybe.
But at the same time, if golf and bowling is, then why not dance?? The same for cheerleading (Im also a cheerleader) but most people dont take us seriously due to ignorance they see in movies (sexual and entertaining, lol)
So yeah. I dont know, I just think dance is a form of expression. But it does take skills... Hmm.
If you compete with it, it is considered a sport. So yes, competiive dancing should be looked at as a sport. And I could never see hiphop being called an art. It's energetic and works your body a lot harder than some things...i think all dance should be considered a sport.
i am a fellow dancer and i beleive that dancing is a sport and if people don't agree then i still call it my favorite sport i don't care if it doesn't fit the definition because it's a sport to me
Either. Technically, it is an art- a performing art. It is physical like sports tho but is very different and builds muscle differently. The body type is also very different

Some types of women dances?
-I need to know what are some of the dances that only women can dance. My mom wna try dancing, I'm looking for some for her.On the presumption that your mom just wants to have fun and not become a professional performer, it does not take years of training. She'll be having fun and possibly participating in performances within months - even if only in the back row or in the chorus.
Bellydance is most certainly done by men http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Nfr_9gSI鈥?/a>
as well as women but male dancers are still rare - and sometimes unwelcome at classes as many women prefer it to be women only.
Bellydance is a wonderful activity for older women - as it gives them exercise, friends, social activities, and an excuse to dress up and be be creative with costuming. Genres vary from folk and traditional to American cabaret and more up to date improvised tribal style and tribal fusion. You do not have to wear skimpy costumes - and older women often prefer to be covered up. If she gets keen, there are lots of workshops and festivals - but most classes organise haflas - which are parties with performances and dancing, usually only for dancers, friends and families.
Many dance classes such as adult ballet, tap, and street dance are women only because only women turn up - especially if they are day time classes. My ballet class has one male, in his seventies, so I don't think he really counts.
If she wants to avoid men in a class, steer clear of any dance that needs a partner like jive or leroc.

What To Pack In My Dance Bag?
-I take ballet for 4 hours a week. Pointe for 1 hour. Lyrical for 2.5 hours. Jazz for 1.5 hours. I also belong to a dance group which performs at a lot of places. What should I pack in my dance bag?The perfect list...
*CLOTHES*
2 leotards
pink,black, tan tights
2 pairs of shorts
2 tank tops
1 shirt
leg warmers
costumes
socks
skirt
sweater
*FOOD/WATER*
water bottle
energy bar
*HAIR NECESSITIES*
hair mousse
bun maker
pony tail holders!
LOTS hairspray!
*MEDICAL STUFF*
neosporin
ace bandage
bandaids
knee pads
medical tape
*SHOES*
jazz shoes
foot undeez
ballet shoes
pointe shoes
pre wrap
turners (they are the best dance shoes you will EVER wear!)
*OTHERS*
clear nail polish
make up bag
perfumeBright your usual: shoes, tights, extra leotard (or two) hair ties and a brush. For the performance end of it, check with the group in advance to see what they will be wearing and pack the same costume (if you have it) or something similar. If you wear makeup, put together a small make-up bag that has your basics in it such as foundation, powder, eyeliner, eyeshadow, blush, lipstick, etc.
I always carry an extra stick of deodorant. Be sure to stick some first-aid stuff in there: I like the fabric band-aids as those stick better and last longer. Bring some neosporin and some medical paper tape, usually comes on what looks like your average tape dispenser. An ace bandage is also good to have, just in case. If you don't need this stuff, somebody else will so it's always good to have on hand. Don't forget your water bottle, and some quick protein/energy like a handful of peanuts or some kind of granola bar.
Alwase have the equiptment you need. (shoes, tights etc..) make sure to bring a water bottle. I would advise bringing chapstick because when your doing dance, depending on the condition of the room your in your lips can get very dry. I'd suggest bringing extra hair ties and bobby pins in case someone needs to borrow them. sweat pants, shoes, shirt. Just bring what feels apropriet to go in a dance bag. =)
Hope this helps

How to do the coffee grinder in dance?
-I have always wanted to be able to do it but have never been successful and if you have any tips, they would be greatly appreciated.
I need help choreographing a dance!!?
-what are the steps to successfully choreograph a dance? I am required to do one.I agree with Sasha's answer. I would like to add that level changes are good (depending on dance style I guess). Also if you're choreographing for a group change formations, use canons. Don't have the dancers do the choreography at the same time, in the same direction, and in the same spot for the whole dance.
hmm, go on youtube and look up daddywongproductions use one of her dances that they choreograph...

HELP TO GET MY SPLITS!?
-So, i have been practicing the splits for a while now. i do it in the morning up against the wall and hold for an hour. im abut six inches away from doing a perfect middle split. how long will it take me to get there, and what are some things that can speed up the process? thank you ! !Here are some stretches to help you work on your splits.
Keep working and you'll get them.Practice everyday if you miss a week it will hurt to do a split also I try to do a split five times a day I do my left then right then middle just practice and you will progress each day it doesn't happened in two days
hi i was 5 when i learned how to do the slpits i did dacing then (ballet and jazz) and still do i was in yr 3 when i tried acrobatics i am now in senior class the way i think of it is keep trying and trying if you learn how to do them then dont stop practicing because you'll get stiff again hope i helped tash
stretch, stretch, stretch!! thats all you can do! there are many good videos on youtube and stuff showing you how to improve on your splits.
if you get sore it helps to go run for a little bit.
it wont happen overnight just be patient!

Pirouette leg goes out and in ?
-i'm a dancer and i'm okay at this move , what is the name of it though? pirouette then one leg goes out then in and sometimes twists? hard to explain but anyone know the name of it? thx!A fouette en tournant!
They take quite a bit of skill, so congratulations!I'm pretty sure you're talking about a fouette. Here's a link so you watch it. I have to warn you not to copy the way it's done, though, because the woman in the video has horrible technique and she performs the step very incorrectly. But it's the only fouette video I could find, so here is it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dyRLOStZ鈥?/a>
I think the term your looking for is a fouttee turn? Its the turn where you keep your foot in posse while you turn then straighten it. Is that it?
fouettee ...?
umm i think your talking about fouette's
Fouett茅 turns. It means to whip
foutee. btw what grade are u in and what syllibu? just curious.

Am i flexible? how to get my right splits?
-ok, i have been doing dance for 5 years, i started when i was 7, im 12. in my dance class (intermediate modern, i also do hip hop) everyone can EASILY do the spilts pretty much without stretching. im one of the youngest in my class, most people are in their sophomore or junior year. i can do my left splits but i have to stretch ALOT. and when i do my left heel stretch, it hurts alot to bring my leg up, yet everyone can do it sooooooo easily! when im in the straddle position, i can put my stomach all the way to the ground, but am i flexible? or are they just super flexible? also i need help on getting my right splits, im about 6 inches off the ground and im not sure why but whenever i try to stretch for my right splits, my knee like always cracks, (its like the sound of a finger cracking) how do i get rid of that so i can stretch more? should i just endure it and keep stretching farther? and once in a while, i would get a charlie horse whenever i do my heel stretch, or scorpian, well i think it is a charlie horse, like my muscles tighten and it hurts for a little bit to walk, thats normal right? PLEASE HELP!!You are flexible, but being flexible for dance is something you have to work at.I know this is a little cleashae but, practice makes perfect. Everyday hold your splits for at least a minute and it will come! It also helps if you work/stretch you legs In other ways. Don't just practice the splits, practice all out flexibility( everyday)
Every body's different, you can't beat yourself up too much. I'm a dancer, and I'm good at it, the only thing letting me down is my flexibility. So now I'm working on it, as hard as I can. So basically, practice makes perfect. It really does make a difference. Also don't compare yourself to others, be inspired by them, push yourself to work harder.

Keep working and you'll get them.
Here are some stretches to help you work on your splits.

How do you increase flexibility on the left leg?!?
-I have been dancing for many years and am now very flexible to my right leg however, in comparisson my left leg is increadably stiff, eg. I can sit in the splits on my right & are no where near on the left. How do I increase the flexibility on the left?Everyday have someone help you. Lay on your back and have someone stretch your left leg as close to your face with a straight leg until it becomes too painful. Then hold it there for a while and release and do this a couple times a day and each time you should notice that you'll be able to stretch it closer to your face each time.

How to grind in clubs?
-I know how to grind so don't say how to do that I'm asking how to approach a girl ur going to grind on I've never been to a club(17 years old) and I've only grinder in the past at high school dances but it's illegal now so I haven't grinder in a couple of yearsJust go behind a girl or girls and start grinding. If they smile or laugh and grind back, it is a sign that they like it and they want or she wants you to continue. But, if she just made faces, then just start walking away.First, get your spelling right.
Secondly, you just go up behind a girl, and the easiest way to do the grind dance is butt-to-crotch. Seriously.
you dont. seriously. dont.

Going clubbing in 45 minutes, what should I do about my nervousness in regards to asking girls to dance?
-How do I overcome it now, I just can't imagine getting a "no"Do be nervous or freaked out. You need confidence to make a girl love you. Confidence is the key. And just dance. Bring your friends with you if you feel safer. And just ask the girl is she wants to dance. A no is not that bad.
How do I do this dance (video)?
-Hey, so I saw this video and really ended up liking the dance moves. The video is too complicated to learn the moves from, so would anyone know of an instructional video or the name of the dance? Here's the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJqA-F68c鈥?/a>
PS: Please don't make comments about the trollface or whatever. I don't care about that, I just want to replicate the dude's sweet moves.well you could video it and slow it down so you can follow along but obviously this guy has definitely done a lot of editing on this video

Hey guys i made a video of me dancing can ye tell me how i did thanks?
-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aeAecjIsGMAt the moment I am sorry to tell you but you weren't that god, but towards the end you started to get better. I think you have some potential and if you loosen up a bit and try not to force the movements so much you would do a lot better, sorry.
Good Luck :)
As of now you're not really a good dancer but I can see that you have potential. Take some classes and develop some other hobbies too...just in case dancing doesn't work out for you.
Good Luck (:

Looking for a kind of dance that....?
-okay so i dont know too much about dancing and its kinds and i'm looking for an elegant but interesting dance .. I mean like a combination between Ballet elegance and Hip Hop moves , not exactly that but I dont want something too slow like ballet or something to urban like Hip hop. it's for a character from a story i'm writing .. need help ! ThanksTry Contemporary, or maybe lyrical hip hop. You tube those with So you think you can dance. Does that make sense? Any way, hope you find what you are looking for! :)try jazz
you point your toes and stuff, leaps and turns, and its interesting(it doesn't have to be broadway jazz it can be sassy jazz)
or lyrical its graceful and its dancing to the music
and modern is like lyrical except its more free dancing
I would do Jazz you do splits and turns which is more ballet and you do some combinations which is more hip hop so you got the best of both worlds
Haha I'm not a Hannah Montanah fan
Jazz is the best choice for you cause Jazz is elegant but it has some kind of hip hop style
Modern would be a good choice:) Modern dance involves a few ballet elements, but has movements that are fast, too.
Lyrical! Look it up on youtube and see if you like it!
If not, try jazz!

Pointe help ten points best answer?
-It's summertime obviously, and I am searching for a new studio to dance at because where I dance currently is not going to take me any further, I am at the highest level already and have gotten the
lead twice in a row the past two years. I made the decision to switch schools a couple months ago. I found a place closer to where I live and it seems really nice. They want me to come and try out a class and bring my pointe shoes... POINTE STORY: I was dancing on gaynor mindens for 2 years and the tried bloch European balances. They didn't fit right so I went back to gaynors. Then I went BACK TO BLOCHS. Again a couple months ago. I don't want to wear those to the class at the new studio because I don't feel comfortable in them and they are almost dead and are cause my feet to sink into the shoe. I have never been really solid en pointe. I'm afraid that they will see me dance en pointe and not think I'm too good and won't see my true potential. Also I am just uncomfortable in the shoes I have and I want to not be afraid to slip and stuff. My mOm says there isn't time to get new ones since the class is on Thursday... What should I do?If your entire class is en pointe then I would call and tell them that your shoes are pretty dead and can you do the class on flat. If you really have no shoes to dance in and if the class is all pointe, and they need to see you en pointe, then you should postpone your audition class until you get new ponte shoes. If the class is mostly on flat then I doubt if it would be a big problem if you did it on flat. They should be able to see your technique well enough to see where you are at.
In either event you should call and explain your situation and see what they recommend.practice as much as you can. If your really that self consious then tell your teacher at the beginning of class that you need new pointe shoes but that you didnt have the time to get them. If the teacher is good she wont judge the fact that the pointe shoes arent good and make it look like your not good. teachers are trained to see the potential in everyone, even if their pointe shoes arent good. =)
Hope this helped
~Lindsey~
if you have ur gaynor mindens that arent dead wear them. dont wear ur dead ones and if you have a bloch pair or otheronest tthat are nt comfy i would rather waer uncomfy ones then dead ones.... or i would just beg my mum to let me get new ones.
:) hope i helped.
Dance like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n53xHnfwY5s&sns=em
I would say dance is regular ballet shoes if they are good enough teachers they will see if you can do pointe regardless if you're on pointe or not
Practice practice practice. Get Bloch jetstream they break in fast so if u wear theca whole they will be fine thurs good luck

How do you slow dance and what are good songs for slow dancing?
-i wanna slow dance with my bf but i dont know how to (mabe he will finally kiss me but maby not)to slow dance you put your hands on his shoulders and he puts his hands on you waist and you move around from side, to front, to back, or in slow circles, just slow stepping motion. my fave slow dance song is "i don't wanna miss a thing" by aerosmithSlow dancing is easy. Basically, all you do is do the Macarena in slow motion. But as your hands get close, you hold his hand. Then when you start grabbing your hips again, you have to pull your hand away quickly. Tease him a bit. It's easy once you get a feel for it.
Slow dancing is not hard at all! I don't understand why people are so worried about it. You just get close and sway back and forth and that's it. I hope you have fun!
it basically a hug that you do while swaying back and forth. a good song is stairway to heaven. it lasts forever! hehe!
try Maroon 5- infatuation it's perfect.

Is it possible to incorporate some form of dance movement therapy into my career as a health psychologist?
-Hi everyone,
I'm 21 years old, and currently a third year undergraduate psychology student. My primary interest within the field of psychology is health psychology!
I'm not sure what I'd specifically like to do, but the idea of working with those who suffer from chronic medical conditions (e.g. diabetes, asthma) and helping them to accept their condition, and work with what they've got to the best of their ability.
I also love dancing, particularly the "Groove Method". I'm interested in incorporating some form of dance movement therapy into the work I mentioned above. Of course I would get the appropriate training before incorporating it. I also have dance experience. Do you think this is possible/practical?
If so, how would I incorporate dance movement therapy into my career as a health psychologist? I don't know all that much about dance movement therapy, but it does appeal to me.
Thank you! It's definitely possible. There are people who are solely dance movement therapists- they fall under the creative arts therapy label. You will need to look into it as a career and find out what the requirements are- you may not be able to just add it in with your psychology background. I'm not familiar with the requirements for dance movement therapy, but I know with other creative arts therapies (music therapy, art therapy) there are licensing and or certification issues.
I work with children who have serious medical problems and I would love to have a dance movement therapist available for my patients. So I think you will find that it might be a nice complement to what you are already planning to do.
One thing to note, though- the goal of creative arts therapies is not really to get patients to accept their conditions, but to give them tools for coping, controlling anxiety, and dealing with the overall stress of being ill. Creative arts therapies allow for a creative outlet for all of the feelings that come with dealing with illness.i am sorry. i dont think you can because psychology deals with the mind and dancing with what your mind feels good movements to good rhythm. if i am wrong i PERSONALLY dont think it is impractical. anyone answer mine? i'll answer yours!

Can larger people dance in a sexy manner?
-yeah. we are arguing again! and i say "yes" and she thinks absolutely not.
what's you're opinion? (honestly, please)anyone can dance doesnt matter how big they are...but not everyone knows how to dance..You need to define large and sexy.
More importantly, it's training, experience, maturity, and technique that determines how well someone dances.

This year i really want to make all those again, and i would like to be considered for a solo. Thats very hard at ym studio considering most of the kids who have parents int he comitee get solos and duets, but i really want to show the teachers how good i am. I will be 16 when tryouts start and there will be 3 or 4 returning teachers, as well as 1 or 2 new ones. There might possibly be a tap number which i am being considered for because i just started tap last yeara nd the teacher wants to do a competitive number and she has spoke to me about trying to find girls to try out.
So my question is, how can i improve in ballet, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, and tap over the next 2 months. I thought of youtube but i wasnt sure if that was a good idea or not. And i do not want to take workshops because the only place offers workshops has an age minimum of 18.
thanks for your help.
anyone have any tips to learn these things at the bottoms
things i cannot do and wish to learn :
fouettes
tilt jumps
firebird jump
triple pirrouettes ( i have my double but its shakey )
any other things yout hink would help me out.
( oh and my first year of competitive was when i was 7 in a jazz trio , so if that helps you get an image of my experience ) :)okay totally not trying to be mean, but im 13 and it your 16 and still dont have your triple pirouette and fouettes then your a little behind. But try improving on some things that might help...try to just balance and count the seconds you can hold once you can stay a while try to turn if you get 2 then try pushing even harder but not loosing your posture...as for fouettes try marking the placement firstand then try one with the acual turn...also learning seconds first instead of fouettes might be easier thats what i did and i have them both now....if you ever need anything else just email me i have been dancing since i was 4 and have been on the comp team for 7-8 years so pretty much my whole dance lifetime! haha hope this helped!
Last year i competed in 5 dances :
Hip hop
Lyrical
Jazz

A song like Ramalama and The Garden?
-i want to do a lyrical solo, and i want a song thats like Ramalama, by Roisin Murphy, and The Garden, by Mirah. The song cant be too creepy, and it has to be appropriate. I like the sharp beats of these songs and the slight creepiness. Thanks in advance for your help! :)Roisin Murphy has a few other slightly creepy songs, like Night of the Dancing Flame
Other good ones are:
Little Black Spiders by Armand Van Helden
Hunter by Bjork
Cry Little Sister by Gerard McMann
Eyes on Fire by Blue Foundation
Supermassive Black Hole by Muse
Enter the Circus by Christina Aguilera
In the House in a Heartbeat (from the movie 28 weeks later...skip past the first minute or two)
Teardrop by Massive Attack
Somebody's Watching Me by BeatFreakz
Thieves in the Temple by Prince
I Put a Spell on You by Natacha Atlas
Cabaret Hoover from the Triplets of Belleville
Weird Science by Oingo Boingo
Paint it Back by the Rolling Stones (there's also a Vanessa Carlton cover that's pretty good)
There's a remix of the Nightmare on Elm Street that my studio used for a semi-creepy dance a few years back.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iuz7tfgXz鈥?/a>
And we also did a dance to Weird Energy by DJ Hype where we were dressed like weird dolls jumped out of these huge jack-in-the-box props.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iuz7tfgXz鈥?/a>
That's kinda weird as I dance to both of those before lol. But try these:
Starstruck by Santigold
Tore My Heart by Oona

Low Brass Parade Dance Break Moves?
-I'm in marching band, and during parades we have a dance break (4-6 measures or so). Most sections have a really cool dance, but since we're a new school and only now have a large enough low brass to sound good, low brass has a crappy visual for this. We need to continue marching, and hold our instruments (marching baritone or trombone) but we need it to be flashy. As of now, we just thrust our instruments into the air, which worked as an adrenaline rush originally, but now it's just boring. I need ideas for new moves/visuals for the break. I've already been denied any spinning or loss of step (unless it looks REALLY cool) and I don't wanna lose my spot in line (the mellos switch spots and I almost knocked my girlfriend out with my horn the first few times) so avoid those. Any good ideas would be appreciated. Thanks guys!
..............................Stage fright?..........................................................?
-It is arts week in my high school, there is going to be a Gym & dance show.Me and some of my friends are dancing to " Across the lines by Tracy Chapman"How do I not get stage fright? ,there is going to be like 200 people there and adults have to pay 拢2 to get.Don't think of it as "Oh my goodness, I am so scared to go on that stage". Think, " OH YEA!! This is MY chance to show off!!"
If you make it fun and enjoy it (and don't over think it) then you should be fine :)Practice, practice, practice ----and be a team. Those who you may imagine in the audience to judge you harshly (and all the potential stuff that could be said! staggering) mostly don't really exist. Even people that may not like you will respect you for being brave enough to go on stage. And if you fear letting peers in the audience down by your performance (or even your nervousness) know that half the people will be relieved if you don't do well! So practice and have fun delivering the gift you will give. Then you can relax and know it will be mostly received in this same measure. For your team will have something to show. Worthy.
Well make sure you know your moves inside out! So that you know them so well you are confident in your ability to perform them, thus there is no reason to be afraid of messing that up! Just pretend the audience isn't there, it's all about enjoying yourself not trying to please other people! Also, make sure before you go on you're having fun with your friends, laughing and joking so you can't get tense!
Hope that helps and good luck!
Practice alot. If your not confident in yourself, then noone will be. Find out what happens when you get nervous. I start to shake, stutter and my knees lock up. After lots of practice i rarley get nervous now! Also, if you dont have confidence, fake it. It sounds weird but it really works. Just act like your confident and you will be. Head up, girlie. Also, on stage the lights keep you from seeing the audience. Good luck!
Just really take deep breaths and drink a lot of water before the show. I know this is cliche, but imagine everyone out there in their underpants. Just remember that if you smile and look like you're having fun, no one but you and the other dancers will know if you mess up. I hope i helped!

How do i dance, Indian style?
-im a dude. i want to learn how to dance, specifically bollywood dance. My bros wedding is in a couple weeks and i have to do a solo, help>!?!?!?
Please help, my mom won't let me do ballet?
-I dance at a local studio, but during the summer my mom said it would be better for me just to take an occasional class as we're visiting family and going on a trip and having guests. I agreed because we have some dvds at least and i could practice a bit on my own. I told her i missed it a lot and i couldn't wait for fall because i'd be happy to be back to dancing three times a week (and I was possibly hoping more). She told me that she didn't think it was "the best idea" because the studio is about a twenty minute drive and she also doesn't really want me on pointe. How can i convince her?! Ballet is really my dream, i accept the fact that i wouldn't be able to go pro because i'm not training intensely but it's definitely something i'd want to do in college and hopefully for a lot of my life. She's really really against me going on pointe. would i even be able to take a good college ballet program if she never lets me take pointe and i have to wait until i'm 18? I'm sorry this is so long, but i'm scared and it means soo much to me :(Tell your mom Ballet is the most important dance class. It's where you learn all your technic to become a better dancer and by her not lettting you take that class is just ruining your dance career. Twenty minute drive? Seriously? Your mom is lazy...I have people from out of town driving 45mins 5 days a week going to dance class. You don't need pointe to be a great ballet dancer and in college they may teach you pointe if your mom doesn't end up letting you. Do what you love and prove to her how much this means to you.
Find a way to earn money so you can contribute to the price of your pointe shoes and some of your classes. Even if it's just something as simple as a neighborhood job such as raking leaves, pet-sitting, babysitting, etc. you could still do it:) Since it's summer, you could organize bake sales to earn money, too. If you earn enough, you could give your mom some money for gas since the drive is 20 minutes. If she's concerned about the length of time it takes to get there, see if maybe there's someone else that goes to your studio that lives near you that you could take a ride with sometimes to give your mom a break. If not, maybe a relative would be willing to help out. If she's worried about you going en pointe because of your safety, have her talk to the teacher about it. Maybe she'll be able to explain to your mom the whole process of going en pointe and tell her that you won't be dancing en pointe without assistance.
You should say that it is your dream and just try to tell her that it is what you want to do. There is nothing wrong with going on Pointe if you have to right training and you are aloud to go on them. If you work really hard I don't see why you shouldn't get a good Ballet Program even if you are not on pointe and you work very hard to become good on them then, you should have no trouble. She might be worried that even though she knows its your dream you might not be able to make a living out of it and that it might not be what you wanted. She also might think that you would be better doing something else and keeping dance up as a hobby.
Sorry to sound so negative I am just trying to give you an insight to what your mum might be thinking, and feeling.
Hope that helped you understand a bit better.
Good luck. x

Is lyrical or modern dance better? In opinions?
-I want to do one of these dances :) plz tell me which one u like more and ATLEAST one reason why!!I like both of them. All the solos I have had have been modern but either with a lyrical or jazz hint to them. It depends on your teacher. One teacher I had really loved lyrical and her modern dances had a lyrical feel to it. My current teacher is a modern dancer and her lyrical dances have some what of a modern feel to them. Alot of times lyrical is more flowy and dance like. Some modern dances can be really weird where they consist of either walking or doing weird movements the entire time. It really depends on what you like though. If you like flowy movements with some ballet focus do lyrical. If you like more abrupt movements and lots of floor work than modern is better. But with either one you really have to show emotion as you dance and try to not only dance but act the choreography.
I prefer lyrical :) it is more strructured. It has different levels to it too. It can be soft and balletic (lyrical ballet), or a bit more harsh and sharp (lyrical jazz) usually one classes consists of both. Modern I would say is more 'free throw'. There are no set dance movements, you make your own in the way your body moves. It can be a bit awkward at times (like any dance), but I just prefer lyrical over modern. :)
Hope this helps!!
:)
I love both types of dancing. Personally, I would chose modern dancing over lyrical, only due to the fact that lyrical is not my best type of dancing.
Lyrical. Modern is to weird for me and I can never move my body the right way so I look weird. Also lyrical can be slow or fast and will have ALOT of technique.
I like lyrical better. My main reason is, it can be slow and more like ballet or it can be fast and upbeat like jazz :)

Ballet and Pointe advice!!?
-Hi, I am 14 years old, and have some but not a lot experience of ballet. I was dancing when I was about 3 years old and quit when I was 6. Then quit, but picked it up again in the summer before 6th grade, while I was there the teachers had ballet shoes for girls who forgot or didn't have them, not knowing what pointe shoes were in 6th grade, I slipped them on and went up on pointe. My teacher politely asked me after class if I'd put them back on and let her analyze my legs. She said I'd be a great dancer, but needed more practice in ballet. I quit that class because I didn't see myself a dancer. Since about a year ago, I was practicing my splits, turnout, passe, coupe, pirouettes, 5 positions, tendu, arabesque, etc. I kept on looking at videos and dreaming of what it'd be like if I could do pointe. I had to finish karate which reminded me about plies, etc. It helped my ankles with all the foot positions, and kicks to help strengthen up my legs, we did jumps and crunches which apparently helped my core muscles. I am finally able to continue actually in a class during this summer, and have been asking dancers, and people from companies about pointe, becasue thats my main goal. I am so confused because so many people tell me I can do pointe again, in days, months, years. But I wanted anyone that can help me with that and exercises too thanks :)
AlannahTake ballet for a while, and that will develop your technique. It sounds like you are very strong, so you probably will go up more quickly than most other dancers when starting dance. I can't give you an exact time frame because I have not seen you dance. Work hard and the time preparing will just fly by! Good Luck!!!!!!

Does anyone know any FREE dance classes i can take in queens new york?
-like at a community center,or studio and if not free cheap, and if not in queens, manhatten or harlem would be ok too?i think you should ring your council. they would know.
Interested in dancing?
-well i used to dance ballet for 2/3 years when i was younger and ever since i started high school i took dance as a elective, and i really enjoy it and its something i think id like to learn well and possibly do it when i get older i'm 16 and out of shape and plan on taking ballet classes and was wondering what i should start to do to condition myself for dancing. i wanted to try for dance team but my dad didn't let me because of finances. any help and suggestions on getting more into dance would be very appreciated although i know i'm probably pretty late considering most dancers start from a early age. but besides taking a ballet class what would help? i'm open to any suggestions. thank you :)I've sent u a sit where u can learn some new step or brush up ur older ones.
I thought you couldn't dance the last time you posted this. I think you can't dance now. I won't think you can dance the next time you post this video.
You can't dance..
Sorry but it wasn't great most of the time you did the same weird move and it just didn't work :/
Don't give up the day job.
I don't see the video...

Can I take my irish dance shoes in my hand luggage on a Ryanair flight?
-Am flying to Shannon from Gatwick this summer as I'm spending a week seeing friends in Limerick - I want to take my shoes to someone over there to have a look as I'm not sure they're the right size, but I'm concerned that they'll be confiscated by security; I'm not sure if the long laces in the soft shoes might prove a sticking point, and heavies might look suspicious on an x ray as well (if they think i'm storing drugs in the heels/tips or something, you know how tight airport security is..!). Was just wondering if anyone's taken theirs in their hand luggage before, or encountered any problems?

Good luck. x
